Elyn Saks is the associate dean and professor of law, psychology, psychiatry and behavioral science in the University of Southern California Gould Law School. She is an expert in mental health law. She experienced her first schizophrenia episode when she was in the first year of her law school. She was hospitalized for five months and was violently restrained. Her book "The Center Cannot Hold: My Journey Through"  is about her own experience as a schizophrenia patient. Obviously, she is successful careely and as a patient. In June 2012, Saks gave a TED talk advocating for compassion toward people with mental illness (see below video). In the lecture, she attribute her success to three factors: First, she got the excellent treatment and the treatment is Psychoanalysis (精神分析)(at 11:35 minutes). Second, she has friends and supportive families. Third, support from her workplace.
