Welcome to my website!FWT is the abbreviation of my name (Francy F. Wang) and therapy. However, I like to call it ForWard-looking Therapy because no matter exploring past experience or looking at present life, the purpose of therapy is to help people move forward.

I was a psychiatrist in China. Although doctor-patient relationship is human encounter as well, my experience told me that the psychological pain could cause people “paralyzing” as well. I wanted to understand why, wanted to understand myself and other people. I become so much interested in the mystery world of human psychology and it was this curiosity guided me to the long journey of psychotherapy. I was one of the earliest graduate students of medical psychology in China and also one of the earliest graduates of the senior therapist training program of German-Chinese Academy. I had over 10 years experience of psychotherapy in China before coming to Canada. One of my dreams then was to get the formal training and supervision of psychotherapy in North America. Since I came to Canada many years ago, I have been taking every opportunity to take training programs and attend workshops and conferences. Now, I finished my long-term training of psychoanalysis and was granted the title of psychoanalyst in 2010.

I worked in the Toronto Western Hospital, the University Health Network before becoming full-time private practice in 2011. Currently, I have my office in Toronto providing culturely sensitive service to my clients who come from all over the Ontario and Quebec and other provinces.

I believe that helping a person explore their internal conflicts should be done in a compassionate and sympathetic way. The individual remains of foremost importance: they are a person and not a case. Therefore, I treat my clients/patient with empathy, respect, and care. I see every person as a complex. I believe in a genuine and authentic human interaction between therapist and client. I respect and honour the place in which my clients find themselves.

Psychology believes that our past experience, especially of childhood experience is of paramount importance. How we were raised up, the social-culture-economic environment, and other’s (parents, teachers, siblings, and other important figures in our life) attitude and opinion to us, etc. are the key factors in how our personalities have been formed and how we related to ourselves, others, and the worldas as adults. For example, many people suffer low self-esteem and lack of self-confidence, or feel angry or depressed, or stuck in a rut. Others find they have difficulties in their relationships at home or at work or feel lonely and unable to form relationship at all, or in general, you are not satisfied with your life and feel something lack inside. Many people find themselves unacceptable and suffer from low self-esteem because they are still influenced by how their family and significant others viewed them and , are also caught up in the role they were given in the family e.g. the stupid one, the awkward one, the pretty one, the sensitive one, etc. Some people may be the victim of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse, or experienced other major trauma. Some have suffered early loss of a parent or could not live with their parents as a child for one reason or another and was not able to form a secure/healthy attachment with someone.

Whatever the issue, there is a sacred and safe space in the FWT (Francy’s Therapy room) for you to explore these issues and express how you feel. You will get the professional help and need not worry to be criticized, blamed, or laughed at. Whatever you talked about and we explored will be kept confidential.

My training includes both medicine and psychology. Therefore, I am able to see not only your mind but also your body and their connections. I also had multiple approaches training in psychotherapy, including psychoanalysis/psychodynamic therapy, cognitive and behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic family therapy. I work holistically with integrative approaches and provide long-term deep psychotherapy/psychoanalysis and brief psychotherapy/counselling according to my clients’ specific needs and their personal interests. Different techniques may be used in the therapy such as free association, imagination and visualization, relaxation/breathing, and mindfulness, etc. However, the most important technique is always talking, that is, the so called talking therapy. What the even more important is that you can find a safe space to explore yourself and to build up a trust relationship with someone who can be both trusted and have professional knowledge and training, through the interaction of transference and countertransference to re-learn and re-experience your self (a process of reconditioning), to build up a solid sense of self, to improve your daily function and interpersonal relationship.
